The tomb is the central focus of the entire complex of the Taj Mahal. With the basic Persian elements, this large white marble structure stands on a square base and consists of a symmetrical building with an arch-shaped doorway or Iwan topped by a large dome and finial. The main finial was originally made of gold and showcases the pure amalgamation of traditional Persian and Hindu decorative elements. The finial is topped by a moon which is a typical Islamic motif but it’s placement on the main spire, the horns of the moon and the finial point combine to create a trident shape, reminiscent of traditional Hindu symbols of lord Shiva. Surrounded by traditional element of Mosque that is Minarets 130 feet tall. Another striking feature of Taj is the Jasper or black marble Calligraphy done by Amanat Khan who used passages from Quran (religious book of Muslims) referring to theme of Judgment. The grounds of the complex include several beautiful buildings, reflecting pools, and extensive ornamental gardens with flowering trees and bushes, and a small gift shop.

The sparkling waters of extensive ornamental pool reflect the hazy shadow of the Taj Mahal that has mesmerizing effect on its visitors. Built in red sandstone on the sides of the platform and enshrining the mausoleum are two structures: a mosque to the west and a guest house to the east.

Each and every corner reflects the radiance and exquisiteness of the Empress. The Taj Mahal is India’s tribute to the grace of womanhood and thus can be interpreted as a celebrated and intense symbol of love.
